Battery Safety Engineer

Location: Canada

While reporting to Validation group, you will work closely with our Electromotive and Battery Design teams to develop and execute safe battery design practices for various use cases but primarily for in-vehicle applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of functional safety system requirements and functional decomposition for specific domains including power electronics and in-vehicle battery systems.
  • Assist with implementation of ISO 26262 and automotive Software Performance Improvement and Capability Determination.
  • Help develop Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment and review functional safety requirements, technical safety requirements and validation tests.
  • Review product designs to ensure design for safety is in place, and work with partners/vendors/internal teams to develop materials, product safety specifications, and safety features for product teams.
  • Support prototype development and safe testing and evaluation of the prototypes.

 Qualifications:

  • BSc or higher in electrical engineering, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • 5 years of Experience with designing and executing testing high-voltage, high-current battery systems with product safety and reliability at the forefront.
  • Experience with battery safety testing and/or analysis
  • Strong experience in design standards for system safety
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Understanding of electrical engineering protocols and standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience operating within ISO 26262.
  • Strong knowledge of high voltage lab equipment.
  • Strong communication skills to persuade product design engineers, managers, and senior managers.
