What you will do?

We are developing an innovative, high voltage, Li-Ion battery pack for automotive and commercial applications. We have the world’s fastest charging and most recyclable battery pack concept patented and in prototyping. We need your help to deliver the system design decisions and insight to get to market with great speed and greater quality and to design the next gen product.

In this position you will be leading 1D battery modelling and system simulations of vehicle battery cells, battery packs, BMS, including model calibration and validation activities.

You will also contribute to the development of battery systems Digital Twins and creating models for HiL applications.

We’re going to change the EV landscape and help the environment while doing so, if this sounds like a movement you want to help lead, this is the role for you.  In particular you will be responsible to:

 

Create 1D models of battery cells, battery modules and battery packs, including mechanical, electrical, fluid and thermal models, using GT-Suite .

Integrate all sub-systems and perform system level simulations (vehicle) under various operating conditions and run sensitivity analyses.

Integrate reduced order models and fmu and perform co-simulation with Matlab/Simulink to validate controls systems.

Define battery system performance dimensions and characteristics for benchmarking and link performance and efficiency requirements to system level targets.

Work alongside the lead vehicle, control systems, and other sub-system model developers to develop, update and issue system interaction models.

Interact with the BMS algorithm developers and the design Team to implement safety requirements in the 1D framework for the battery pack and run validations.

Lead battery model calibration activities to validate the 1D models. Collaborate with design and test teams to design validation and verification tests based on requirements.

Work alongside CFD and Electrochemistry model developers and lead the 1D implementation of developed Lithium-Ion batteries performance degradation models, including aging, thermal safety, and cell life estimators (SOH).

Implement battery estimation algorithms and models for SOC into the 1D framework.

Create models for real time applications (BMS, HiL) and contribute to the development of battery system Digital Twins for BEV.

Perform statistical analysis, UQ, and optimization of battery performance

Create, updating, and managing multiple fidelity 1D model libraries related to cells and battery systems.

 

What you will bring?

Proven experience in 1D systems simulations using software like GT-Suite, KULI, AmeSim, Simscape.

BS/MS/PhD in Mechanical/Electrical/Automotive Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science.

Academic background in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering and BEV relevant industry experience, and track record associated with 1D systems simulation.

Ability to understand fundamental controls techniques and to simulate a wide array of physics-based problems (electrical, electrochemical, thermal, flow, etc.), preferred experience with battery systems.

Knowledge of innovative statistical methods, UQ, machine learning techniques, reduced order and surrogate models is preferred.

Good programming, mathematical and advanced data processing capabilities (Python, R, Matlab)

Ability to interact with CFD and Multiphysics engineers, and to understand the results from their simulations.

Understanding of simulation driven design, collaborative sharing, and demonstrated ability of technical communication at different level (engineers, management).

Experience in test design and experimental set up (battery testing equipment preferred).
